A signed application
A copy of your Praxis I PPST passing score report or a copy of the waiver letter from the Connecticut Department of Education
Two recommendations (with original signatures) related to your ability to work with children and adults. (select Forms) See individual departmental requirements for more specific recommendation requirements; some departments require one of the recommendations be from the content area faculty
An original essay that demonstrates a command of the English language, describing the reasons why you want to teach and enroll in the Professional Program for Teacher Certification. The essay should emphasize experiences that are relevant to teaching.
An official transcript from every college/university you have attended aside from CCSU. NOTE: These official transcripts must be submitted with the application and cannot be obtained either from the registrar or from the admissions office. They should be obtained directly from the college or university previously attended and may take several weeks to obtain.

Biology – Secondary Education
• An original laboratory report written solely by the student, which demonstrates his/her ability to design, conduct, and report a scientific investigation and apply mathematics in analyzing and presenting data
Chemistry – Secondary Education
• An original laboratory report written solely by the student, which demonstrates his/her ability to design, conduct, and report a scientific investigation and apply mathematics in analyzing and presenting data
Early Childhood* and Elementary Education
• Resume that includes the student’s educational and work experiences.
• Statement of Experience with Children documenting 30 hours of quality
experience with children
• One of the references must be from a faculty member in the student’s subject
matter major department

History and Social Studies—Secondary Education
Undergraduate & Graduate
·Minimum 3.00 GPA in the content area (calculated on all courses with the ANTH, ECON, GEOG, HIST, SOC, PS prefix or equivalent transfer courses).
·One of the two letters of recommendation must be from a CCSU fulltime History faculty member.
·Students must have a grade of “B” or better in HIST 301 or HIST 310 or a History Department approved equivalent Before Applying to the Professional Program.
Graduate Students additional
·Post-baccalaureate students only may request a waiver to be enrolled in History 301 or 310 at time of application. Department approval of wavier should be indicated below. The course must be completed before admission will be granted.
·Post-baccalaureate students only, passing score on the History/Social Studies Praxis II test (test code # 10081).
Integrated Science – Secondary Education
• An original laboratory report written solely by the student, which demonstrates his/her ability to design, conduct, and report a scientific investigation and apply mathematics in analyzing and presenting data
Mathematics – Secondary Education
• One of the letters of recommendation must be from a member of the CCSU
Mathematics Department
• A second essay. See Math Essay form
Physics – Secondary Education
• An original laboratory report written solely by the student, which demonstrates his/her ability to design, conduct, and report a scientific investigation and apply mathematics in analyzing and presenting data
Social Science – Secondary Education
• A writing sample that is at least 15 pages in length, or a series of papers
that are at least 5 to 10 pages in length. These writing samples must have
grades and written comments from a former professor. Students should plan on
using their final paper from HIST 301 or 310, or provide a portfolio of the
various written assignments from one of these courses.
• One of the letters of recommendation must be from a faculty member in the CCSU
History Department.
Contact individual departments (Art, Biology, English,…) to schedule an
interview with the department faculty committee. If you are applying for Early
Childhood* Education or Elementary Education, check the Interview Schedule posted
outside the Department of Teacher Education, Barnard 277
Early Childhood* and Elementary students only:
• Students are required to write an impromptu essay. Students should check with
the Department of Teacher Education, Barnard 277, regarding the date and time of
the essay appointment
