Elementary Education Program Information

The Elementary Education program prepares teachers to teach in an elementary school. The elementary endorsement authorizes the teaching of all elementary academic subjects, except it does not authorize the teacher to be the sole provider for art, music, physical education or a world language. (Regulations of the Connecticut State Board of Education; Effective July 1, 2003)

Students must choose either a single subject matter major (33-39 credits) or a dual subject matter major (42-43 credits).

Field Experiences:

Students in elementary education have five field experiences, each of which has its own specific emphasis. These field experiences are taken in conjunction with one or more courses during the same semester. All of these work together to contribute to the development of a teacher candidate's portfolio project.

The following is a description of courses and field experiences.
