The Early Childhood Education program prepares teachers to teach in early childhood settings, which generally serve children through the age of eight. The early childhood endorsement authorizes the teaching of all early childhood subjects to students in both special and regular education settings [nursery] through kindergarten and regular education in the primary grades through grade three. Regulations of the Connecticut State Board of Education; Effective July 1, 2003)
Students must complete a dual subject matter major including a primary subject area (24-25 credits) and a complementary subject area of Human Growth and Development (18 credits).

Field Experiences:
Students in early childhood education have five field experiences, each of which has its own specific emphasis. These field experiences are taken in conjunction with one or more courses during the same semester. All of these work together to contribute to the development of a teacher candidate's portfolio.
The following is a description of courses and field experiences. The early childhood professional clusters are offered only once a year.
