MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING (MAT)

Welcome

Dear Prospective M.A.T. Candidate:

We are pleased that you are interested in CCSU’s M.A.T. program. We are proud to offer prospective teachers of Secondary Mathematics, Sciences, Spanish, English, and Technology & Engineering Education (K-12) the opportunity to earn both a masters degree and certification. Although M.A.T. cohorts begin their 13 months of study in late May of each year, early application is strongly encouraged to allow you to complete needed prerequisites and take full advantage of financial aid.
As you complete your initial application for admission to the M.A.T., keep in mind that admission occurs in two stages. An applicant whose initial application to the Graduate School is accepted will be conditionally admitted. Conditionally admitted applicants will be assigned an M.A.T. advisor and may complete missing prerequisite courses, tests, and/or school experiences as they assemble the complete set of materials required for consideration for full admission. The initial application process requires submission of a graduate school application, a program application, all transcripts, and a candidate statement.
The following qualifications are required for consideration for initial, conditional  admission:

Conditionally admitted students will work with the assigned advisor to assemble the full program application. A full application includes the initial application materials and the following materials.

To be considered for full admission, applicants must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions expected of teacher candidates. Initial assessments will be made through review of complete applications. Fully qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an admissions interview. Admissions standards for the program are quite rigorous and each cohort is limited to 25 students across all disciplines; therefore, not everyone who meets the admission requirements can be accepted.
The initial admissions process requires submission of materials to two offices: Graduate Admissions and the M.A.T. Coordinator in the Department of Teacher Education. Graduate Admissions in 102 Barnard should receive the CCSU Graduate Application Form, $50 application fee, and your transcripts.  The candidate statement and program application form should be sent directly to the M.A.T. Coordinator’s Office at the address found on the attached checklist.
Thank you for your interest in the M.A.T. Program.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. The best way to make contact is via e-mail: hoffmann@ccsu.edu.

Sincerely,

Nancy Hoffman, Professor of Teacher Education
M.A.T. Program Coordinator
