MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING (MAT)

Admission to the CCSU MAT program occurs in three phases.

The initial admission is conditional and is based on review of the following materials:

  • Satisfactory scores on Praxis I PPST (or a letter verifying state acceptance of an approved equivalent)
  • Satisfactory scores on the required state content knowledge examination (s) in the certification area (Praxis II or ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency)
  • Statement of experience form documenting required school experience
  • Two references on program reference forms from those who can best assess potential as a teacher
(preference will be given to confidential references)
  • Evidence that the content area coursework and general education requirements have been met.
  • Evidence of a GPA that meets program admission expectations
  • Evidence of ability to write at graduate school level demonstrated by either a GRE writing score or a
CCSU sit-down writing examination (typically scheduled in conjunction with an admissions interview)
  • A  resume documenting educational and work experiences
  • Statement agreeing to complete CT criminal history record check through the appropriate RESC and to authorize forwarding of results to host district(s) upon placement for practica.

When the admissions packet is complete, a program admission interview will be scheduled. The initial set of interviews are typically held in late November or early December , with a second round of interviews in late January or early February, and a final round in March. If spaces are available in the program, applicants with complete files may be considered after that time.

Early application for conditional admission is encouraged as it enables applicants to complete any needed prerequisite coursework or testing in a timely fashion.
