Biographical Sketch

Aram Ayalon is the Assistant to the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education in charge of Secondary Education and Educational Foundations. He has been an associate professor of Secondary Education at CCSU since 2001. He received his Ph.D. and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis on secondary education from the University of Arizona. Before joining the faculty at Central Connecticut State University, he was the Coordinator of the Elementary Program and Associate Professor in State University of New York College at Potsdam for 12 years where he initiated and developed a new field-Based interdisciplinary B.A in Elementary Education.

At the university level, he has taught various courses including principles of learning, secondary methods, innovations in secondary education, multicultural education, science and social studies methods, education research methods, classroom management, and school restructuring. He was also a high school science teacher in Arizona.

His research interests include multicultural education in rural areas, teachers as mentors of minority students, recruitment of minorities to teacher education, and school-university partnerships. He published articles in the Education Forum, Rural Education, Teaching Education, Curriculum and Teaching, Teacher Education Quarterly, and Mentoring & Tutoring. He developed a partnership between Yonkers Public Schools and SUNY Potsdam School of Education aimed at exposing rural teacher candidates to urban schools and recruiting minority high school students to teacher education. He is currently a member of the Connecticut Mastery Test Fairness Advisory Committee and is active in initiating collaborations between urban schools and CCSU.
