Biographical Sketch

Professor Timothy V. Craine, is the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences and has been a member of the CCSU faculty since 1993. Previously he taught at Asanteman Secondary School in Kumasi, Ghana, for two years; in the New Haven, Connecticut, Public Schools for four years; in the Royal Oak, Michigan, Public Schools for nine years; and at Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan, for six years. In 1984 while at Renaissance High School, he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics. Immediately prior to his appointment at CCSU, Professor Craine served as Director of the Mathematics Center at Trinity College in Hartford.

Dr. Craine earned a BA in mathematics at Oberlin College and the degrees Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics education at Wayne State University. He is co-author on a series of three high school mathematics textbooks, Integrated Mathematics 1-3, published by McDougal Littell in 1995 and more recently the college textbook, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra: A Practical Approach, Houghton Mifflin, 2004.

Professor Craine’s research interests lie in the development and implementation of curriculum, with particular emphasis on geometry and the integration of mathematics and science. He is currently involved in research on how high school geometry curricula are implemented in Connecticut schools.
